blog eight - Another Celeb Endorsement!

Earth Day pin made of copper wrapped stator, magnet, plastic and a laser reader lens.

My dear friend Karen loves MNBC and she told me that Jill Wine-Banks, commentator, lawyer and author of The Watergate Girl, has a pin wearing hobby. Apparently she wears a different pin every day. When I first learned about this, I looked up her Instagram to confirm, then I vowed to send her something to wear for Earth Day, which is April 22. This year will be the 52nd anniversary of Earth Day. I sent her this pin and received a very nice note in return. Apparently she worn an Earth Day pin last year as well.

Dear Melissa,
Your beautiful work of art arrived today. I admire your creativity and your dedication to our environment. I will definitely wear it in honor of Earth Day this year -- and on other occasions just because it is so well designed and made. Attached is the pin I wore last year - about cleaning up the earth.

Thank you.

Best, Jill

My work consists of bold colors and abstract forms, that interact with surface imagery. With playful, serendipity - disassembled technology is arranged to reveal hidden beauty. I have a background in Art History & Art Education and have been making sculptural collage with disassembled technology since 2012, when I started working at the maker space, Artisan's Asylum in Somerville, MA.
